PechenegFX released AutoTremWahLight, a freeware modulation effect in VST and AU plugin formats for digital audio workstations on Windows and macOS.
AutoTremWahLight is a free modulation effect based on the AutoTremWah (€15) plugin by PechenegFX. The plugin consists of a dual multimode filter and an LFO modulator.
The LFO module can either run freely or in sync with the plugin host. It can modulate the filter or the audio signal’s stereo balance. In the modulation section, the user can adjust the modulation rate, the LFO modulator’s waveform shape, phase, and symmetry.
The filter section boasts a dual multimode filter with adjustable cutoff and resonance. The filters can operate in high-pass, low-pass, and wah modes. The user can set the cutoff parameter manually or use the LFO to modulate the filter.
The last parameter is the dry/wet mix knob. It can be useful for quick parallel processing. For example, you can add subtle movement to a pad sound by mixing the clean audio source with the modulated signal.
Here’s how PechenegFX describes the AutoTremWahLight plugin:
“AutoTremWahLight is a modulation of a filter by a low-frequency generator. It is a free and restricted version of the AutoTremWah plugin. You can look on the page of the AutoTremWah to watch a video tutorial and test the demo version of AutoTremWah.”
If the developer’s name sounds familiar, that’s because they released an excellent freeware plugin called Pecheneg Tremolo back in 2015. They’re also offering a freeware volume automation plugin called AutoSwell Light.
Unfortunately, unlike PechenegFX’s older plugins, which worked on both major OS platforms, the newly released AutoTremWahLight will only work on macOS. It is currently available for download as an AU plugin from the product page linked below.
That said, the developer mentioned that a Windows version of the plugin soon. I will update this article as soon as the Windows edition of AutoTremWahLight becomes available.
UPDATE (February 9th, 2021): PechenegFX released a VST plugin version of AutoTremWahLight for Windows.
AutoTremWahLight is completely free to download and use from the developer’s website. You can download it without signing up for a user account.

onCan you link the Windows version here when it’s finished? I’d love to try it, thanks!

onWhat a news! BTW, is GUI resizable? (Just a question.)
Ilia the Pecheneg
onThe Mac version the free and non-free plugins are automatically resizable between retina and non-retina displays. Windows free version is not resizable. For the non-free versions we released 2x larger interface for high-DPI monitors.

onI just downloaded this plugin, but the installer doesn’t seem to add the respective AU to the components folder on my system. Has anyone else encountered this?
Ilia the Pecheneg
onIt should install it to user directory ~/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components/
John Conte
onIt created a user in my user directory named isivkov. The AU is in there. I put the AU in the Components folder but Logic doesn’t recognize it.

onNice to see a new release from Pecheneg, AutoSwell is my go-to effect for ambient guitar noodling.

onI finally had opportunity to check AutoTremWahLight. Had to wait some time for Windows version. We are so lucky it exists. Very intuitive and good sounding plugin. I don’t have any other effect that comes close to what this VST can do. The visual aspect is also helpful and speeds up workflow.

onI also love the interface, and the workflow is super fast. Great plugin.
